He began singing at the age of 6 years in the church choir of his mother, Jonnetta Patton, was director. Jonetta, a single mom, raised Usher and his younger brother James, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, before moving to Atlanta, Georgia, when Usher was 12.
At the age of 14, and guided by his mother in his career, Usher released his first single, "Call Me A Mack", for the soundtrack of "Poetic Justice" (1993), a film starring Janet Jackson. Only a year later, she released her debut album, and in the next three years, Usher developed his professional relationship withthe singer Jermaine Dupri.
In 1997, he released his second album, "My Way" and has since earned seven platinum albums, only in the United States.
Usher received his first nomination for the Grammy Awards for Best Male R & B hit single from his album, "You Make Me Wanna", which was also nominated for unSoul Train Music Award for Best Theme Male R & B / Soul.
That same year, he made his acting debut on the UPN series "Moesha" playing Jeremy Davis, a role that became a series regular.
Her first film role was in the 1998 creepy thriller, "The Faculty", directed by Robert Rodriguez and co-starring Josh Hartnett and Elijah Wood. Followed by "She's All That" (1999), and his first starring role in "Lost Generation" (1999), sharing deal with Forest Whitaker and Rosario Dawson.
